What is it?
A chemical/organic broad spectrum SPF30 daily sunscreen for the face. The sunscreen is a hydrating cream with a gentle spa-like fragrance.
What Matis say:
Sun Protection Cream 30 is
Who is Matis?
Matis is a French pharmacy brand with 80 years of experience in developing products to suit consumers needs. Based in France they combine beauty, science and nature to produce luxury pharmaceutical skincare at a mid-range price bracket.
Texture & Finish
A smooth cream that is luxuriously hydrating without leaving skin akin to a 90’s greasy suncream feel. While it is not mattifying upon first application, skin is glossy and dewy then dries down to a demi-matte finish over the space of an hour or so. It appears to become more mattifying as the day goes on, rather than greasy as can sometimes be found with SPF’s. Clever stuff. Skin is left hydrated and protected.
There is no white cast.
Matis SPF30 applies easily to the skin and builds well for further application. While it is a richer suncream it is not heavy, greasy or suffocating. Makeup applies well over the suncream, there is no pilling or separation of product. In fact, I would say that the glow this suncream provides gives an added highlighted, healthy affect to both skin and makeup looks.
“SCENT: a delicate fruity summer fragrance complimented with delicious scents of Monoi flowers, vanilla and apricot. It is based on a soft, woody note completed with a delicious lemon scent leading to a floral heart.” Matis Paris
Reminiscence of a spa experience, the fragrance is pleasant and gentle, certainly not overpowering and didn’t upset the more sensitive areas of my face.
From Matis Paris website:
“UVA & UVB FILTERS: the UVA and UVB filters of the RESPONSE SOLEIL line are the chemical compositions absorbing the UV rays.
ANTIKEULINE 6 ®: the Antileukine 6® helps protect cellular DNA in a targeted way and limit the impact of free radicals from UV rays.”
I spoke to Matis to ask for further details on the Antikeuline 6®:
“The Antileukine 6® comes from a type of seaweed which acts in the heart of cells to protect their DNA. Its action helps limit the action of free radicals caused from UV radiation and protects the skin from premature ageing and cellular alterations.”
Seaweed is antioxidant rich and can also help reduce inflammation. I would hazard a guess that Matis are harbouring the benefits of seaweed’s natural antioxidants and minerals in their formula to help protect the skin.

Who will like it
•Those who love skincare rich suncare
•Normal-Dry skin types
•Chemical/Organic SPF fans
•People who love a glowy finish to their skin
Who won’t like it
•Mineral/Inorganic only SPF fans
•Those who prefer fragrance free skincare
•Folks who like an instant mattified finish (some people with oily-very oily skin may prefer a lighter, less rich alternative)
This feels like a luxury skincare product. It feels caring to my skin and I feel protected when wearing it. It is broad-spectrum (we all know we shouldn’t be shopping for anything less) and a decent level of coverage at SPF30. Its mix of antioxidants, gentle emollients and UVA/UVB filters make it a powerful little product which I enjoy wearing. I love that it contains vitamin E which helps to soothe skin as well as protect it from environmental aggressors. Because of this, it features in my ‘SPF Highlights’. I believe this will be a particular hit with those who have normal to drier skin types, those who’s skin relishes humectant rich formulas. Oilier skinned folk might prefer an instant mattifying option such as Evy Technology SPF30. This isn’t to say it’s not for us on the oilier end of the skin type scale. I’m normal to oily (dependant on my retinoid use) and enjoy wearing this, so much so that it will be coming on my upcoming holiday with me. It is however not as light a formula as the aforementioned and therefore the choice comes down to personal preference.
